Having to pay for HD space annually rather than just "Buying a bigger drive" This is possibly one of the stupidest and least helpful comments on the subject I have ever I was hoping that I was doing something wrong on this laptop where the Windows folder alone is over 16Gb. I like to keep my drive usage below 50% if possible to keep it fast (Velociraptor). In contrast, Windows Vista or Windows 7 do install relatively quickly (in just about 15-20 minutes) on a modern PC but installing the service packs and updates takes more time than
It's a start, but I still have almost 8GB of cruft remaining. Using DISM after installing a service pack will remove a good many unneeded files - i.e. It makes no sense for an OS to use more resources than the programs it is intended to run. MyComputer showed 134GB free space BEFORE running DISM and 136GB AFTER running DISM and restarting Win7.... Googling found a book called 'Windows 7: The Definitive Book" by William Stanek.
