A quick followup question: Macrium Reflect allowed me to write to a target partition I had created for it on an external HDD (when I used their "image" option). Just want to mention that the backup software that I use is "Image for Windows" by Terabyteunlimited (not free but quite inexpensive). Matt, the new version of FREE Macrium only offers DIFFERENTIALs, not INCREMENTALs...
